Christmas 2012

Well Christmas came and went like a blurrrrrrrrrr...But boy was it fun to have a little one to get excited about the season this year! :)  We started off the festivities with a brunch with BFF Briggs.
Next we celebrated with the Ostrom side of the family at our house.  It was just to be expected, loud, fun, eating, laughing and cheering(for the Seahawks).  The little ones were tearing thru the house, Sienna was taking it all in and TJ didn't leave his spot on the couch for fear of losing the front row position for the Hawks game.  All in all it was a good time but like always, we missed our California clans and of course my grandpa who is in the hospital.

On Christmas Eve we headed to Aunt Martha's for the traditional chicken pitas...yum yum!  The food spread is just amazing and I think I might have ate more at her house than I have all year.  It was fun to catch up with the cousins and watch Sienna "run" around the house.  This year we missed going to church because of an early bedtime but don't worry Sienna you will get to go next year!

Christmas day we actually got to sleep in a little (6:30AM).  Although both LT and I had been fighting off a cold, I think my cold and sickness hit full throttle on Christmas Day.  But that didn't slow us down.  We enjoyed opening presents as a family for the first time in our new house.  Sienna "oohed & ahhhed" at everything.  She did a little dance with her singing reindeer to really start the morning off right. :)

Then it was off to my parents house for some more presents and breakfast!  Sienna was excited to see Hank and Hank was excited to be in every picture (aka Hank the Photobomber).

Next and last stop was to the Turners for Christmas Dinner.  Chicken Marbella is always on the menu and always delicious!  We exchanged gifts and opened stockings, Sienna peed on Grandpa :).  Then the Hildebrands arrived and we ate, drank and chatted then opened more presents.  Sienna got spoiled and loved playing with cousins Alex and Dylan.

We are so very blessed to have such amazing family and friends.  Christmas is a wonderful excuse to get to spend that extra time with them and we enjoy it so much.  Until next year Christmas!!!

Maybe we will like Santa a little more???

Heavy Heart

On Friday morning I got to spend a little extra time with Sienna because I knew I was going to be working late.  When Grandma O arrived at 9AM we both were excited to see her and I was hurrying around the house to make sure I had everything before I had to leave (like usual).  When I was giving Sienna a hug and talking to my mom I noticed in the background that on the TV behind my mom there was a news alert that there had been a shooting at an elementary school.  My heart immediately hurt.  I grabbed Sienna so much closer and didn't let go.  My mom and I were so upset, her a teacher herself and me a wife of a teacher, know that this hits a little closer to home.  At this point they had just reported that 3 people had been sent to the hospital and I hadn't heard that anyone had died so I was hoping that 3 injured would be it.  I said my extra extra EXTRA goodbyes to my little girl and mom.  When I arrived at work I still didn't have time to listen or read about the news other than some coworkers discussing that there had been fatalities.  WHY? Why innocent people and little children!

I went along with my busy day, which thankfully was very busy and away from a computer so I was not able to see all the reports coming in.  On my way home I couldn't get there fast enough...I wanted to see my baby girl and husband safe and sound.  And they were. :)

My heart breaks for all those families that lost loved ones and for the survivors that have the trauma of losing friends, teachers, and their innocence.  I have been thinking about this all weekend and I get teary every time I think about it.  I held Sienna extra close the last couple of days and let her sleep with me and on my lap instead of putting her in her crib.  I didn't want to let her out of my sight.
Love on your children always but LOVE on them even more during this time, especially around the holidays.  I hope we can figure out a way to stop these shootings...it is getting out of hand.  I pray that this doesn't happen ever again.  There are really no words to express the sorrow I feel for the victims.  As a new mom I feel my world would end if I lost my little girl.  I am so blessed to have her as my daughter.

Here is a quote from President Obama during the memorial "God has called them all home. For those of us who remain, let us find the strength to carry on and make our country worthy of their memory."  I just keep telling myself we now have 26 more angels in heaven.

Here is my perfect little angel...the best gift when I got home. :)

Starting off the Christmas season right...

Starting off December right with my annual WSU girls ornament exchange!  It is easily one of the best parties of the year and this year we did it Pajama Jam style.  There was sooo much food, lots of drinks(we need to count the bottles still), fun story telling and ornament stealing.  I am so blessed to have these pretty ladies in my life and appreciate every single one of their friendships.  Another one in the books!!

The big 9 months!

Well Sienna you are growing like a weed!  I can't believe that you are already 9 months.  I find myself holding you a little closer and hugging you a little longer everyday because I want to remember how little you really are.  And right now you don't say "no" when I hug you all the time. :)

Here is what you have been up to:
  • You took your first airplane ride to Maui (you did OK on the way there but on the way back you were a pro)
  • You went in the swimming pool for the first time and I think you will be a swimmer because you loved the water once you warmed up to it.
  • You LOVE walking/running holding our hands (you loved chasing the birds in Hawaii)
  • You love to play chase throughout the house, you squeal with excitement as we try to get you
  • You are starting to eat all sorts of foods.  You still like green beans and peas a lot and you get super excited when you hear the crinkle of the mum mum cracker.  I mean you light up with joy once you have that cracker in your hand
  • You now have 4 teeth and I think you will have all your teeth by 1 years old
  • You shake your head back and forth when you are really tired
  • You give kisses when we ask you to :)
  • Your wave is the best...your hand flops back and forth
  • You are really loving to dance
  • You are really into saying oooh ohhhhh and pointing at everything.
  • You still love to pull and suck on momma's hair
  • You still aren't the best sleeper but you are getting better.  You like to gently play with momma's hair while you fall asleep.
  • You are wearing 6-9 month clothes and #4 diapers
  • You met Santa and were NOT a fan at all
  • You get stopped all the time by people saying how cute and sweet you are.
You are such a little love and me and your dad love spending every moment with you.

Here are your stats, miss long and lean!

Weight: 17lbs 25%
Length: 28 1/2 inches 90%
Head: 50%
